- 19 Jan 2012 MAINE,, United StatesI have 2 Akero trees in my collection. Growth wise is similiar to a pear tree. The branchs grow up and not out like most apple trees. Here in Maine, the fruit season is short and the apples must be picked within 7 days or the apples start to fall. Very jucy and spicy flavor.
- 28 Oct 2011 PA, United StatesOne of my favorites, and definitely my favorite Swedish apple. There was an Åkerö tree at the corner of the old farmstead at Karolinska Institutet when I was a post-doc there in the early '80's, and it was still there this summer. From the entrance off Solnavägen closest to the Nobel Forum building (and Stockholm), go straight to the first chance to turn right. It's there at that corner. I had two Åkerös here in Pittsburgh - the mice girdled one, and the other needs more sun to produce.
- 11 Aug 2011 HUDDINGE, SwedenHave 2 trees, about 50 & 30 years old. They give fruit every other year, rather hard apples, very juicy and aromatic, can be stored until february. Must be handled carefully. Wonderful to make applejuice, taste fantastic.
- 29 Jan 2011 SODERMANLAND, SwedenI grew up in the province of sodermanland, south of stockholm. we often visited akero, at the time owned by a family enderlein. the manor was built by a mr. Tessin. court arquitect in the 18th cent. The original tree was and still is standing in the garden there. it is beleived that it was a spontaneous breed. the apple was a winter fruit and stayed fresh till march if kept in a cool space. juice was used to make wine; too.
