- 23 May 2023 Vienna, AustriaYou should pick them as late as possible (end of October). Then, only in November/December they turn into excellent apples!
- 23 May 2023 Vienna, AustriaThis is one of the best apples. The taste is similar to Topaz. Berlepsch apples should be picked not earlier than in the middle of October (in late years also end of the month). They have to be stored till November/December, only then they are ready! The trouble is, that the tree needs a lot of attention (pruning). Big trees become very dense and almost impossible to prune. Therefore dwarfing rootstocks (e.g. M26) are considered to be better than seedlings. Moreover, this variety (grafted on seedlings) is not a reliable bearer. The soil has to be good and the climate not too rough... a capricious variety but the taste is even better than Topaz.
- 08 Sep 2014 PA, United StatesPicked 28 august. One apple was ripe, the other two were green. The ripe one tasted slightly tart with after taste of lemon. Peel was sweeter than rest of apple. Next year will let apples ripen on tree.
